Campus Support
Direct Four-Year Track
Once on campus, faculty and staff mentors meet weekly with the cadres and regularly with each individual scholar throughout the first year. Mentors provide social support and connect students with campus resources. In addition, university and Act Six staff provide ongoing leadership training, internships, and career opportunities.
Urban Service Track
During their first two years in Tacoma, scholars continue to meet regularly with Act Six staff and receive extensive academic support, advising, and personal mentoring to ensure they are prepared to transfer. Throughout all four years, TLC and Act Six staff provide ongoing leadership development, internships and career opportunities.
Proven Success
National data show that less than half of all African American, Latino and American Indian students who start college ever graduate. The data are equally discouraging for students whose parents didn't attend college and those from low-income families. But local statistics tell a much different story for Act Six scholars:
More than 90% of Act Six scholars who started the program are still enrolled. Further, 95% of scholars in the first two cadres at Whitworth will earn their Bachelor's degree within five years.
